E1201 & E1204 await their next duties at Beaconsfield (Electric) Depot, Kimberley on 6th August 2007. These locos are part of the 80-strong 6E Class, and were built 1968-69. They are 3kv dc locos, and followed the Classes 5E & 5E1, and predated the 6E1's with their 9 series variants. They operate to the north of Kimberley, as the line south, to Beaufort West is electrified to 25kv dc. They are very capable machines, and have an amazing traction motor blower sound. Pantograph design differs from loco to loco - I have even seen locos with 2 differing designs on their roofs!
