Written by Andrew Fowler, the popular Digital Photography column in Railway Herald has been released as a special one-off beginner's guide, that is available, free of charge, to all.

Covering a variety of subjects from choosing the right camera and understanding the differences between Secure Digital and Compact Flash, through to compositing shots and editing images with Lightroom, this supplement brings a wealth of information to the keen photographer. Sections on how to edit imagery in photographic software like Lightroom are backed up with video tutorials, also available free of charge to all, showing the individual steps, with a useful narration.

The supplement is available to all, free of charge, in either a standard PDF file or in our Digital Edition format, simply click on the appropriate cover below to access your copy.

Please note, because of the file size, the PDF version may take several minutes to download depending on the speed of your connection - if you encounter a 'File is corrupt' message, it may be beneficial to 'right-click' on the yellow PDF link above and select 'Save File As...'

For those reading the PDF, or viewing on tablets, the video content (which is embedded in the page within the weekly magazine) can be found on our website at, or simply click/tap on the 'Play' icon on the page.
