The prototype HST power car, 41001 is seen here in the Great Hall at the National Railway Museum in York. This power car set a world record for the fastest recorded diesel traction when it hit 143mph in 1973. This was only broken by a 'production' HST set in 1987 when it recorded 148mph whilst engaged on testing work.
