HEX (HarzElbeExpress)sevices, operated by Veolia, stand at Halberstadt in the Saxony/Anhalt region of Germany on 18th January 2011. Unit No. VT810 awaits departure with the 11.12 to Magdeburg while VT871 works the 11.08 to Thale. Only 11 days after this photograph was taken, on Saturday 29 January, a passenger train travelling from Magdeburg to Halberstadt was involved in a head on collision in thick fog. The train, travelling at around 100kmph hit a freight train near Hordorf, on a single line section. As a result 10 people, including the driver of the passenger train, were killed.
