NR have recently indicated the preferred route of the Norton Bridge Divergence scheme and while its aim is to eliminate the troublesome flat junction to the North Staffs line it is also intended to eliminate the reverse curves on the slow lines. The plans show the diversion at the north end will join the existing alignment in almost the spot where No. 86501 passes at the familiar location at Heamies Bridge on 4M81 7.30 Felixstowe -Crewe Basford Hall on 17th June 2011.
