No. 390030 'City of Edinburgh' comes off the Stoke Line at Colwich Jcn onto the Trent Valley Line on 10.55 Manchester Piccadilly-Euston on 27th September 2011. The flat crossing at the rear of the train was the scene of a serious accident on 19th September 1986 when 86249 'The Times' on an Euston-Manchester Piccadilly via Stoke collided with 86211 'City of Milton Keynes' on a Liverpool-Euston via Stafford resulting in the death of Driver Eric Goode on the Liverpool train. A memorial garden exists to his memory and can be viewed from passes trains. Both locos were written off as a result of the accident.The concrete pad to the right of the train was the site of Colwich Jcn Signal Box which was abolished when the Trent Valley Four Tracking was commisioned.
