The first of the 4 scheduled winter Cumbrian Mountain Expresses ran on February 4 2012 when preserved Class 86 86259 Les Ross worked the Euston - Preston and Carnforth - Euston stages with steam traction working the Preston - Hellifield - Carlisle - Carnforth stages. 86259 is seen curving through Leyland on February 4 with the outward stage to Preston where steam traction was waiting for the next stage.
