With the King George V Bridge providing the backdrop, Northern Rail Class 142 No. 142005 stands at Althorpe Station with the 10:24 Sheffield to Scunthorpe service. Seen here on 28th July 2012, the iconic Scherzer rolling lift bridge carries both road and rail traffic over the River Trent, and when built (1912-1916) the 50 metre electricity powered bascule was one of the first of its type in Britain and the largest in Europe.
