Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 Imperial Locomotive No. 1 stands on display at the NRM 'Locomotion' Shildon, on 8th October 2012. This locomotive was used by Imperial Paper Mills at Gravesend until 1976, and was utilised for safety reasons, their boilers in fact being large pressure vessels that were filled with steam at intervals from stationary boilers. Similar locomotives were also used at Empire Paper Mills at Greenhithe, a sight that this photographer remembers from his days as a cadet at the Merchant Navy College that was located next to it.
