British Rail Advanced Passenger Train Experimental (APT-E) stands on display at the NRM 'Locomotion' Shildon on 8th October 2012. This prototype advanced passenger tilting train unit made its debut run on 25th July 1972, from Derby to Duffield, and on 10th August 1975 achieved a new British railway record speed of 152.3 mph, that still stands today for a non-electric train. The APT-E consisted of 2 driving power cars and 2 trailing cars, and was powered by 8 (total) Rover built Leyland 2S/350 gas turbine engines.
