When first built in 1979 the second FR Double Fairlie to be named Earl of Merioneth (the original Livingstone Thompson had been so renamed in the early days of the FR revival) was a less than elegant addition to the fleet and it was slightly modified but still carries the ugly sloping side tanks in contrast to the traditional Double Fairlie outline.Having recently arrived at Portmadog on 11.55 from Blaenau Ffestiniog it runs round at Harbour to head the 13.45 departure to Blaenau on 24th August 1998.
