After being sold for scrap in 1963, unique BR Pacific No. 71000 was towed to Cashmores, Newport for cutting. However, pure chance led to a former BR employee noticing that the destination label for the locomotive read Woodhams, Barry and so "The Duke" was moved to the correct buyers yard. Pictured here at Barry, circa 1966, already stripped of many parts, the locomotive was eventually purchased in 1973 by The 71000 Preservation Society.
