Pictured at Almaty 2 station on 20th February 2017, KTZ Talgo diesel heating No. TG9 912 003 is one of two cars (at opposite ends of this passenger set) which provide much needed warmth for the railways clientele. Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country on the planet, but with only 16 million people, and vast distances between major centres of population. Since 2001, KTZ have added over 400 Talgo cars to its fleet. As a result journey times between Astana, the nation's capital, and Almaty have been reduced from 20 hours to just 12.
