In the days before BR lost its mail traffic, the 12.18 Bristol Temple Meads - Plymouth empty vans was usually double headed to position locomotives for two separate workings from Plymouth later in the day. On 19th August 1998, Rail Express Systems-liveried Class 47s No. 47766 Resolute and 47781 isle of Iona pass Langstone Rock near Dawlish Warren en route to Plymouth. No. 47766 was withdrawn in March 2000 and scrapped in July 2004, while No. 47781 survived until September 2003 and was scrapped in April 2007.
