German-built steam locomotive in Latvian Railway Museum, Riga. Built in 1942 during the Second World War at Kassel in Hesse (works number 26954) it is one of a standard type (52-class) operated by Germany throughout Europe in the wartime. According to the caption it was seized by the Soviet Union it was converted to broad gauge (1524mm) in 1947 it operated in the Baltic region until withdrawn from the mainline in the 1960s and thereafter as a shunter until withdrawn in 1990.
