On the first day of operation, Saturday 16th April 2011, of the new tram system in Reims, tram No. 114 approaches the Porte de Mars from the central SNCF station. For heritage reasons, the city centre section operates on a third rail. The third rail has alternate conducting and neutral sections, the conducting sections are only energised as the tram passes over and so are safe to stand on (I tried it!).
