A serious shunting accident at Ramsgate, on the evening of 21st December 1985, saw unit No. 1537 demolish the buffer stops while carrying out a propelling movement out of the yard, and ending up in the sand drag. Another 10 foot would have seen it smash through the viaduct parapet wall and a sheer drop of 50 foot straight down!
