Class 47 No. 47046 was first used as a test bed for a Ruston engine for the Class 56 project and renumbered 47601, and then it was used with another Ruston engine for the Class 58 trials, renumbered 47901 in 1979. No. 47901, in Railfreight livery with Trainload Construction decals, is seen exhibited at the Gloucester Horton Road Open Day on 17th September 1989, and was withdrawn in March 1990 and cut up in February 1992.
