Since its reopening to freight traffic roughly twenty years ago, the single line between Ashton junction and Portbury Dock has handled various goods ranging from automotive, aggregate and coal in addition to other short term flows such as steel. In this view taken at Pill, Freightliner Class 66/5 No. 66593 '3M Mersey Multimodal Gateway' powers what is thought to be the first occasion that container traffic has been conveyed along the route, in this instance, the 08:15 London Gateway Freightliner-Portbury Automotive Terminal on 23rd July 2022.
