Southern Railway 'Merchant Navy' Pacific No. 35018 'British India Line' passing Armathwaite with 'The Cumbrian Mountain Express' on 13th May 2023 heading for Appleby. The Merchant Navy had taken over the train at Carnforth which had originated at London Euston and bypassed Carlisle to get from the West Coast main line on to the Settle and Carlisle line.
