Two generations of heavy freight locomotives are seen in this brief view at Kidderminster on 15th May with Class 58 No. 58023 from the BR era, most of their BR careers being concentrated on coal MGR traffic before having second careers building mainlines in Europe. Class 70 No. 70020 is one of a smaller class of locomotives operated by Freightliner and Colas and can often be seen on container workings. The 58 and the Class 70 despite being 30 years apart share some common design, with both having access to their powertrain via gangways up the sides of the locomotives, the 58's becoming known as ‘bones' by enthusiasts due to this.
