With completion of electrification between Wigan and Manchester via Bolton EMU trainsets now work local services between the two locations as on 19th August when Class 331/0 No. 331021 entered Wigan North Western with a service from Manchester Victoria. To assist with driver training the trainset was subsequently used on a series of driver training runs between Wigan North Western and Warrington Bank Quay.
