The 'King' class locomotives have never performed as well on the Northern Hills as on their home ground of the Devon Banks and 28th March 1998 saw yet another attempt as GWR 'King' No. 6024 King Edward I ventured into the Ribble Valley en route to the S&C. Here, the loco climbs Daisyfield Bank out of Blackburn bound for Carlisle on the outward leg of a charter from Swindon.
