Among the last duties of the ill-fated Class 17 fleet was trip workings around some of the smaller coalfields in Fife and the Lothians. on 1st October 1971, Class 17s Nos. D8528 and D8507 were working local trip workings from Bathgate serving local coalmines and steelworks.
