After an absence of nearly four years from the mainline, ex-BR Class 40 No. 345 (40145) made a welcome return on 6th June 2014 working a positioning move from Carnforth to Heywood ready to work the Class 40 Preservation Society's 'The East Lancs Stalwart' charter to Oxford the following day. The locomotive is seen here during the charter, approaching Wolvecote Junction working the return from Oxford to Castleton Hopwood on 7th June 2014. Class 57/3 No. 57315 was on the rear of the train.
