After 130 years or more the end of another bit of railway history is nigh. Semaphore signals at Staythorpe, Fiskerton Station and Fiskerton Junction on the Nottingham to Newark line are still currently lit by oil lamps. The semaphores are going nowhere but work has now started to fit battery powered LED lamps that will have a battery life of around 6 months. On an overcast Tuesday 10th August 2010 the lamp man performs a task which must have been carried out on a weekly basis for as long as any living person can remember, he relamps FS3, Fiskerton Stations up distant signal.
