On the 9th March 2016, this ex Rhodesia Railways Class 14A, 2-6-2+2-6-2 Garratt No. 508, built by Beyer Peacock in Manchester in 1953, together with an ex Rhodesia Railways Class 16A 2-8-2+2-8-2 Garratt No. 615, also built by Beyer Peacock in Manchester in 1953, are seen at the Transnet Steam Heritage Depot at Voorbaai, Mossel Baai, in the Western Cape. A number of steam locomotives are stored at the Depot and following a recent assessment by Depot staff, certain locomotives have been identified to be kept, while others will be scrapped. Unfortunately, both locomotives are to be scrapped.
