Mistley is a short distance along the Harwich branch from its junction at Manningtree. The line diverging to the left is a steep zigzag approach to the working wharf on the Stour estuary, used for exporting local grain and malt products. An unrecorded Class 37 loco is coming down the grade from Harwich with a van train on 30th October 1981. There is evidence of a direct route to the dockside on an easier gradient leaving to the right of the loco and circling round under the railway beyond the distant Anchor Lane overbridge.
