The circular 4 foot gauge Glasgow Subway opened late in 1896 as a cable operated system being converted to electric traction in 1935. This hand held image was taken on Thursday 12th May 1977 9 days before the system closed for modernisation using 64 ASA colour slide film and shows an unidentified motor coach at Copland Road Station leading an inner circle service. Of note is the general run down timeless state of the railway, the narrow width of the island platform and the list of all the station stops either side of the clock so that passengers could select the shortest, or longest, journey to their destination. All trains were formed of 2 coaches, a motor coach plus a trailer, with the motor coach always leading the formation.
