On strike days with no GWR services on the B&H route the crossing box at Kintbury is often left unmanned. on 5th January 2023, however were enough staff available to keep the route open. In dull conditions with persistent drizzle, re-liveried Class 66/6 No. 66605 is in charge of a ballast train from Merehead Quarry to Acton TC seen travelling more than an hour early in the absence of passenger services at Hungerford level crossing - operated remotely from Kintbury.
