It's fully 8 years after the 1968 end of steam on BR but a distinctive pattern of NE water crane still stands at the end of the platform at Thirsk, perhaps still put to good use by steam specials using the ECML north of York. Class 47/4 No. 47432 restarts a southbound express on 12th August 1976.
