Today's Whatley Quarry to Dagenham Docks stone train is barely a half load at 24 wagons, so Hanson Class 59/1 No. 59101 makes relatively easy work of breasting the 1% gradient to Savernake Summit, passing the site of the junction for the former Marlborough branch line before levelling out at the cutting where Savernake (Low Level) station once stood, on Wednesday 3rd September 2014. There have been reports of a planning study into re-opening the branch - to bring that influential town back on to the national network after it lost both of its connections in the Beeching era.
