On 29th August 1978 Class 03 No. 03107 is seen stabled between duties as the Newcastle north end pilot loco. Built by BR Doncaster Works it entered service during October 1960 as No. D2107. The locomotive's entire life was spent on the Eastern Region, by 1974 Thornaby TMD was home, and by the time of this picture it was nearby Gateshead TMD. Being vacuum only braked made it an early candidate for withdrawal as the 1980s dawned and this occurred in August 1981 while still allocated to Gateshead. Not sold for Industrial use or into Preservation it was towed back down the ECML and scrapped at Doncaster Works during October 1982.
