LMS Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T No. 41298 stands in the yard at Quainton some ten years after withdrawal from BR and looks as though little has been done to it, apart from the removal of the rods, since being rescued from scrappage. Immediately behind can be discerned the shape of a similar loco, probably No. 41313, in a much greater stage of dismantling. The good news is that in the 46 years since this photo was taken on 27th March 1977 both locos are fully restored and operational on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
