On 19th March 1978 vacuum only braked Class 76 No. 76053 is stabled for the weekend in a damp Guide Bridge Yard, Manchester. Entering service during March 1953 as EM1 No. E26053 she had been fitted with a steam heating boiler for working passenger trains over the Woodhead route and carried the name 'Perseus' from October 1960 until 1970 when all passenger services over the line were withdrawn. No. 76053 was withdrawn in November 1980 just 8 months before the Woodhead Line closed, being eventually towed across the Pennines and scrapped by C F Booth in their Rotherham Yard during March 1983.
