Hidden away within the depths of Voluyak Yard on 13th March 2025 I found DB Bulgaria 88-030 'Ashford'. This former UK locomotive was of course 92030 when active on the UK rail network and like the other three sister locos, 92025 'Oscar Wilde', 92027 'George Elliot' and 92034 'Kipling' have changed little in their outward appearance since arriving in Bulgaria back in 2012. Originally they could be found working the Burgas-Pirdop copper ore trains but since losing the contract to BDZ Cargo more recently they can often be observed working on the Intermodal flows. Recent reports suggest that only three of the four are now operational with two additional examples, former 92001 and 92003 of DB Romania being transferred-in across the border to bolster the fleet.
