A well turned out Skoda 44-189 and stock pulls into Veliko Tarnovo with a mid-morning northbound service to Gorna Oryahovitsa on 24th April 2017. Once the capital of Bulgaria the historic town of Veliko Tarnovo is a really popular destination for tourists and Bulgarians alike, and rightly so. The beautifully kept railway station is somewhat hidden away on the southern outskirts of the town, the route northbound immediately passing through two tunnels separated by a bridge where the line crosses the Yantra River. Heading in the opposite direction the route south provides a connection to Gabrovo and beyond to Tryavna, Tulovo and Stara Zagora.
