In recent years Pirdop on the Sub-Balkan Railway Line has been synonymous with the BZK (Bulgarian Railway Company) Class 87 electric locomotives that were imported from the UK but recent reports suggest that in 2022, Iliyantsi has now become the preferred stabling point. Back in 2017, on a sunny 14th October this was a typical scene at Pirdop, a line-up of BZK electrics awaiting their next turn of duty. Present and still in BR Blue livery, No. 87004 'Britannia' as well as Nos. 87029, 87022 and 87007 plus five Romanian built Class 40 electric locos, two 'Rolling Stock' examples and three in the red and blue livery of GFR (Grup Feroviar Roman).
