One of three BDZ Cargo Class 61 electrics transferred to Sofia to cover a shortage of main line motive power is captured at Zaharna Fabrika on 23rd June 2018. Having worked up from Blagoevgrad, Dupnitsa and Pernik 61-012 is just one stop from journeys end, Sofia Central. BDZ PPs main line passenger services were suffering from a serious shortage of motive power during 2016/2017 which seems to have continued right through to 2019. The delivery of new SIEMENS Smartrons in 2020 would ease the situation allowing the Class 61s to be stood down and be available for duties more commonly associated with the class.
