The Bulgarian rail network boasts four separate branch lines to locations on the southern banks of the mighty Danube River. Three are non-electrified, Yasen to Cherkovitsa, Levski to Svishtov and Samuil to Silistra with Brusartzi to Lom fitted with electric catenary throughout. Captured having just left the port town of Svishtov an unusually clean and tidy SIEMENS Desiro Class 10 DMU set No. 10-007/10-008 heads south with BDZ service SUB24281 to Levski. This branch still sees regular freight workings to the port and a couple of local industrial sites, normally operated by BDZ TP Class 07 diesel locomotives as a mixed freight.
