The classic communist era blocks of apartments built for the people along with a tram system to get them to their place of work. This is Bulevard D-r Petar Dertliev situated in the southwestern part of the city of Sofia, District Lyulin 5. These classic apartment blocks can be seen all over Bulgaria and indeed in other former eastern-bloc countries. They date from a time when everyone had somewhere to live and everyone had a job to go to. How things have changed. What has not changed however is the extensive tram system across the city, the predominantly working class area of Lyulin still served by Route 8. Rebuilt T8M-500F articulated tram No. 508 is just two stops into the return journey to the city centre. This wide angle view was taken on 12th September 2014 but by 2024 the T8Ms have been replaced by the less colourful Schindler/Siemens Waggon Be 4/6s trams acquired on the second-hand market from Basle in Swithzerland.
