PORT RAIL Class 55 diesel No. 55-098 is pictured on heavy shunting duties at Pirdop on 9th October 2023. DB SHENKER (Bulgaria) has lost the Pirdop shunting contract to Burgas-based PORT RAIL who now dominate the scene with Class 06, 07 and 55 locomotives in their distinctive red and blue livery. Conspicuous only by their absence are the British Class 87 electric locomotives of BZK (Bulgarian Railway Company) which have been relocated to Iliyantsi Yard in Sofia following the loss of their contract in favour of state-run BDZ TP. This view shows a solitary cargo wagon occupying the stabling point that once was home to the Class 87 and Romanian Class 40 locomotives, the line up which often exceeded ten locomotives.
